This City Never Sleeps
Saturday, January 26, 2008 @ The Quail's Egg and the tale of Cautionary Lust
So before Remy the rat cooks a reunion dinner for every family in around 2 weeks time, this week, apart from having Catherine Zeta-Jones cooking for her loved ones and Jodie Foster prowling around the streets of New York with guns for revenge, we have the arrival of a tale of cautionary lust which Singaporeans love and hate. But the thing is, they are now available for rental or sale from your friendly neighbourhood video stores.
Yes yes. Ang Lee's Lust, Caution is on sale on home video in Singapore. But don't get too delighted too early. You can forget about seeing the steamy scenes between Tony Leung and Tang Wei that stirs a big hoo haa here for cutting it off in the China edit. As for the DVD, it is the plain o' vanilla edition with Mand, Thai and Melayu/Indonesian subtitles. No bonus features...
And i just couldn't imagine that the Made in S'pore DVD can be retailed at the price of a freaking $30.
But that doesn't affect me much, cos my colleague brought me the HK IMPORT directly from HK on Mon!!! Yeah, the moment i saw the DVD, i almost freaked out...
For HK$150, i get a 2 DVD edition with bonus features, with interviews in Eng, making of, galleries, trailers and TV spots in Cantonese. But sad to say, no English subtitles provided.
At least, i don't have to pay a visit to Golden again if i wanted to watch Lust again...
And to sweeten up the week of a tale of cautionary lust, the Quail's egg is in Singapore. For the sake of those who have never watched Lust before, Quail's egg refers to the 6 Carat Diamond ring that Tony Leung bought for Tang Wei, which eventually costs the lives of 6 people.
And here is the Quail's Egg...

The Quail's Egg aka the pink diamond ring was designed by Cartier, and will be on display from now till 10 Feb at Cartier Ngee Ann City. After that, it will be send to US and Tang Wei will be wearing the ring to attend the Oscar's Ceremony this year. And after the ceremony (and if you did not have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the ring), it will be put on permanent display at Cartier museum in Paris. The ring will not be re-produced due to high cost (app S$6 million to made the ring, where if you were to compared with the lives of the 6 poor fellas who attemp to assassinate Mr Yee in the story, it works out to be S$1 million/ live. ) and this ring was made specially for the movie.

Wang Chia Chi (Tang's role in the movie) was right. She said: I do not want to wear something so precious and expensive and walk around the street. Give me that S$6 million and i will get myself an apartment, a posh car and a high life till i die, rather than taking the risk of getting robbed or killed (in a robbery.)

Somewhere around the corner in the city lies a man with some past...
